Bidinger's Ice Cream

Every spring and summer, the people of Wadsworth, Ohio, go to Bidinger's Ice Cream to enjoy a special treat with either themselves or their friends and family. They continued to remain open last summer and this spring with some changes that they had to make because of the pandemic.

"One of the things that we had to do was we created stickers that separated people six feet from each other whenever we had a big line and we also install a policy that requires the employees and the customers to wear a mask," said Linda Ling who has an ice cream maker for 2 years.

They put the stickers on the floor in the summer of 2020 when the pandemic was not as bad during the spring but still bad that they had to install them. But over time as the vaccines started to roll out, they became more lenient in requiring people to follow that rule.

Another thing that they had to install during the pandemic is putting up protective glass in front of the cashiers and the customers in order for both sides to be safe from contracting the Coronavirus.

"We had to set up plexiglass between us and the customers because we were afraid that some of them would not wear their masks to order their Ice Cream so we had to put up the glass to keep us safe just in case," said the cashier Sydney Lewandowski.

But while face masks are not required for customers to wear them while they are ordering and waiting for their ice cream, employees are required to wear masks at all times during their working hours and they can only take them off when their shifts are done for the day.

"Every time I come here I always see the employees wear their masks and I approve of that decision because the transition rates are significantly lower than if they did not have their masks on and quite frankly, I wish they would require the customers to wear their masks so that way the transmission rate can be even lower," said Bob Duncan, who is a regular customer.
