A delicious meal: The journey of becoming a great cook
Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, a lot of people have picked up cooking their own meals or have been cooking more and Jane Meighen of Wadsworth, Ohio, is one of those people who have been constantly been cooking meals.
She started to get an interest in cooking when she watched her mother cook and began cooking when she was 16 and continued to cook throughout her teenage years and when she got married and had a family of two.
"My mother was always a great cook and I would always watch her and eventually I started learning when I was 16 and then getting married, I've always followed the way that I was brought up," said Jane Meighen
When her kids were really young, she would always cook them pancakes and French toast for breakfast usually on the weekends when they did not have school. But on school days she would make them regular toast with a side of yogurt.
"I always really enjoyed when she would make pancakes and French toast in the morning for us on the weekends because it was a reminder for us that it was the weekend and she always made the best Pancakes of all time and it wasn't even close," said Melissa Meighen who is the daughter of Jane Meighen.
While those two foods are her favorites to make for breakfast. Jane also likes to make scrambled eggs, bacon, omelets, cheesy omelets, sausage (patty and links), and waffles.
A fancy meal is about to be made as Jane Meighen prepares for the dishAfter both her daughters graduated from college and moved to different places. She began to pick up a variety of different types of lunches and dinners for her to eat with her husband on a nice afternoon on the weekdays or the weekends.
"Since both of our daughters have left the house permanently, Jane has really experimented on making new things for us to eat such as pad thai that she learned how to cook by taking an online class through Zoom and also has been cooking ham and baloney sandwiches with cheese which both are really good if you ask me," said Mick Meighen the husband of Jane Meighen.
But while she enjoys cooking both breakfast and lunch for her friends and family members. She by far prefers to make dinners over those two because the person who she was inspired by (which was her mother Barker Meighen) always enjoyed making dinner for her husband Joe Meighen and her two daughters Jane and Jean.
"I have always enjoyed eating Jane's dinners the most because that is when her cooking is at her best in my opinion with foods such as spaghetti, chicken divan, tuna sandwich, and mash potatoes and gravy," said Mick Meighen the husband of Jane Meighen.
The night I interviewed her, she said that she was making something different that she has not made before but learned it from taking an online Zoom class. It is spaghetti mixed with pea pods, shrimp, garlic, and olive oil cooked in a pan rather than a pot to give it a special cooked flavor that regular spaghetti would not give you.
