TAC QUICK

TAC QUICK of Wrigleyville is a popular Thai restaurant for Wrigleyville residence and for students who go to Lake View High School. People who have eaten at the restaurant have always raved about how delicious the food is and now that Chicagoans are getting vaccinated. They are excited to fully get back to normal and to have full capacity.

Last year, they were unable to open their restaurant for in-person dining for the whole year even when other restaurants were allowed to during the summer and early parts of winter but now that the vaccines are being produced and being made available. They decided to open back up for the spring of 2021.

"While other restaurants opened up for customers last year, we decided not to do open up for indoor dining but rather just continuing to have order and pick up dining because we were worried that someone with COVID-19 would come into our restaurant and get my employees sick," said Anong Suwan the owner of TAC QUICK.

But during the fall of 2020, they did think about opening during the early months of winter but they had to scratch that idea due to the increase of COVID variants at the time and because of that. They had to continue to remain closed and that affected their financial situation.

"We really wanted to open up this winter because we were afraid about our financial situation and losing even more money but due to the variants that we saw emerge, we had to push that plan aside and continue to not allow customers inside our restaurant," said Ninh Pravat who has been a waiter for 1 year.

Despite the challenges that they had to deal with COVID-19, they also had to deal with a lot of discrimination and racism because of how former President Trump referred to COVID-19 as the Chinese Virus and that was just another giant anvil on their shoulders.

"The amount of racism that we were getting from people calling our restaurant number and saying horrible things about us to even one of our employees being assaulted just because he was Asian was really taxing for us because we had no idea that there was this much hate, but we have also seen a ton of support from people who are against anti-Asian, hate," said the cashier Preeda Trubbaya.
